A Trip Up North

In my earlier post, I mentioned that my friends and I will be heading north to Penang for a "Jalan-jalan Cari Makan" trip. And boy, did we eat a lot. I came back from the trip intending to go on a detox diet, but of course that didn't happen.

We stopped by Ipoh for brunch at this lovely place, decorated in old skool knick-knacks called Burps & Giggles. We ordered a very special type of omelette served in a small wok (cute!), churros, a few selections of pastries, quiches and a portobello burger to share. Very quaint cafe with good food. I don't know if everyone agrees with me, but food tastes extra delish in good company.

Churros! First time I had this was in Gold Coast, Australia

Love this picture somehow. Adeline, me, Dennis and Haseo. It was Haseo's idea to act blur. Notice the luggage bags wallpaper behind us
Upon reaching Penang, we checked in at the Hydro Hotel and after that, went on an eating spree again.Penang Road cendol and asam laksa were our first stop, before we heading to do some touristy sightseeing at Armenian Road. There are a lot of wall art there, some of them pretty cool. There was a queue building up to take pictures with wall art!

It's quite hard to find a trishaw without any tacky decor these days

Candid camera!

Our GPS told us that China House was just around the corner, and lo and behold, it was less than 100 metres from where we were standing. It's a looong stretch of shophouse with a cafe, restaurant, bar, outdoor dining and art gallery all rolled into one. Nice concept, though we stopped by to have drinks, we didn't eat anything as we were saving stomach space for Gurney Drive. We also wanted to go to Amelie Cafe, coz apparently, it's a must-visit restaurant in Penang, but it was closed.

All pics above taken at China House. I'm wearing my H&M birdie top :)
Being a tourist spot, food there wasn't exceptional, but acceptable. We ordered tonnes of stuff - grilled fish, char kway teow, pork satay, cockles, sotong kangkung, etc. Too many to list down.

The next day, we went in search of the Lorong Selamat char kway teow and fried oyster omelette. The char kway teow came with fresh cockles and 3 big prawns at 8 bucks. Not cheap, I know, but reasonable considering that we already drove all the way to Penang to have a taste of it.

We need to do this again, guys. Maybe this time somewhere further with cheap, good food. Phuket? Krabi? Anyone?

Anna Dello Russo for H&M

Just yesterday, Violet was in a pretty long queue at H&M Lot 10 trying to get her hands on some of the Anna Dello Russo for H&M collection. She was pretty gung-ho about it and managed to grab a loot of stuff. I'm kinda impressed by her ability to push through crowds for the sake of fashion. Actually, I think I prefer using the word "style" to "fashion". Everyone can afford fashion, but not all can have style.

I'm glad she succeeded in her attempts, because the stuff were shiny, sparkly and glittery, just like how I like my stuff! And packaged beautifully too, in turquoise and gold boxes, to reflect the AdR theme. I got her to buy me the cute turquoise minaudiere (read: box clutch, for those of you who don't know what a minaudiere is), coz I'm head over heels in love with it, and now I can't wait for a special occasion to use it.

Our loot consists of snake and crocodile motif bangles, bracelets, earrings and minaudieres, all drool-worthy and worth every Ringgit spent, in my humble opinion.

Nail Polish Crazeee

My first blog entry for October and guess what it's about? Nail polish galore! 90% of females in the office purchased nail polishes from a combined order amounting to over RM600 bucks! We could probably start a mani/pedi shop if we wanted to. Amelyn is super good at nail art and design and she can do wonders with nail polish - water marbling, polka dots - you name it, she can do it.

I love the colours I bought - Metallic 4 Life from Nicki Minaj (a glittery gel-like black), The Colour of Minnie (silvery red), Call Me Gwen-ever (orange) and Did You Ear About Van Gogh (nude) - all by OPI. I can't wait to remove my current Topshop blue nail polish and paint on new coats of colour on my nails.

I'll probably invest in more nail polishes in the coming months, depending on orders secured from the rest of the colleagues. I'm eye-ing for the James Bond Skyfall collection in The Living Daylights, a multi-coloured glitter base polish. One thing about glitter nail polishes is that they are IMPOSSIBLE to remove. But I still love all things shiny and glittery.

And I'm also excited about the Penang food trip that three of my secondary school friends and I are embarking on this weekend. More pics on that when I return.
